COMMUNITY SURVEY 2009

• The purpose of this survey is to guide the BoT/Principal in formulating the 2010 Annual Plan.
• 27% of our school community responded.

ITEM A:

1.86% of respondents think the school’s CLASSROOM AND BUILDINGS are attractively presented and in good order

2.62% of respondents think there are many OPPORTUNITIES TOPARTICIPATE at Broadgreen Intermediate. 26% were unsure

3.80% of respondents think 3 WAY CONFERENCES are an effective way of reporting and developing students’ responsibility for their learning

4.85% of respondents think the Broadgreen IntermediateCULTURE IS SAFE (emotionally and physically)

5.90% of respondents think the TEACHERS at BroadgreenIntermediateSchool meet their child/ren’s needs

6.88% of respondents think the TEACHING AND LEARNING PROGRAMMES at BroadgreenIntermediateSchool meet their child/ren’s needs

7.70% of respondents support learning supplemented by regular HOMEWORK

8.80% of respondents think BroadgreenIntermediateSchoolCELEBRATES CHILDREN’S SUCCESSES effectively

9.92% of respondents think BroadgreenIntermediateSchool should keep a SCHOOL UNIFORM

10.43% of respondents think learning a LANGUAGE, in addition to Maori, should be mandatory for students

• A significant number of respondents chose a positive word
• Examples of popular words (5 or more respondents) include;

opportunities, good, great, awesome

ITEM C:

ISSUES/IDEAS that the BoT/Principal should consider to further enhance BroadgreenIntermediateSchool

• The respondents shared a variety of issues/ideas
• A significant number of these were in response to the previous survey questions (items A)
• The majority of responses included the following themes;

uniform, languages, 3 way conferences, homework and extension programmes

NEXT STEPS -(for inclusion in the 2010 Annual Plan):

• Each term publish in the newsletter the ways in which PARENTS CANPARTICIPATE at Broadgreen Intermediate
• That UNIFORM remain however, review their suitability/appropriateness
• Explore the opportunity and delivery of LANGUAGES for students
• Continue to develop and refine the effectiveness of 3 WAY CONFERENCES
• Review the effectiveness of HOMEWORK programmes
• Review the effectiveness of EXTENSION PROGRAMMES within the classroom

Zero waste @ Broadgreen

Well as you may have heard, Broadgreen Intermediate has been working really hard towards achieving zero waste from within the classrooms. Each class has had two zero waste monitors to educate students on how we can accomplish this together and it is now time to see if we can do it!

Starting week 6 Term 4 all rubbish bins from around the school will be removed with one left for canteen rubbish being the only one, which will remain. Anything which can be recycled on site will be and will be collected from the school. Waste, which cannot be recycled such as gladwrap, chip packets etc will go back home with the student.

We look forward to doing our part for a cleaner greener school and a cleaner greener community.

MUSIC NOTICES

Band and Choir

The recording session planned for this Saturday the 14th November has been postponed to the 8th of December. This will happen during school time while rehearsing for Christmas Concerts. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Community Christmas Concert

The students of Broadgreen Intermediate will be putting on a Community Christmas Concert on the 12th of December. All members of the school community are invited to come along and enjoy listening to a variety of performances from our talented students. Featuring the school band, choir, marimba group, Kapahaka group, dance groups, musical groups and individual instrumentalists.

Start time is 7:00pm. No charge.

Musical Instruments to donate

We are always looking for musical instruments that are no longer being used at home. If you have an instrument at home which is still in working order or needs a small amount of repair, we would happily take it off your hands so a student at Broadgreen can benefit from learning to play it.

Congratulations to Hannah Waine, Aiden McKenzie, Jessica Bell, Oscar Baden, Cameron Thomas who represented Broadgreen at the Intermediate School's Tennis Tournament on 5th November.Hannah won the girls event while Aiden came runner- up in the boys event.Hannah and Aiden will now travel to Christchurch to compete

in the South Island Primary Schools Tournamenton December 2 & 3.
